Arik Air (W3) orders 15 Boeing Aircraft

Arik Air of Nigeria has ordered 10 next-generation Boeing 737-800’s, four 787-900’s and one 777-300 ER.

The 777 was previously announced by Boeing, “this additional order for Boeing jets demonstrates our commitment and a purposeful strategy to establish world –class commercial aviation service in Nigeria,” said Arik Managing Director Mike McTighe.

The airline is working with Boeing to help Nigeria obtain FAA Category 1 status, following it to offer US-Nigeria service. In April, Arik took delivery of two 737-700’s and an order for two 777-200LR’s, two 777-300 ERs and three 787-900’s.

The carrier operates a fleet of 16 aircraft on 11 domestic routes. Boeing noted this is the second African airline to select both the 787, and it is the fastest growing privately owned airline in Nigeria.
